If you are wanting to make a change in your life (or with the people you love), therapy is a great place to start. There is nothing wrong with seeking support when navigating a new phase of life.

Usually 50-90 minutes, therapy services are to help you gain insight into yourself, and to learn skills that can help improve behaviors that have held you back in life.

There are many subtypes of therapy. It can be confusing at first to know where to start. While different styles of therapy may make a difference for you, trusting your therapist is equally important.

Trusting your therapist is an important part of the therapeutic process. Therapy can be a unique place where you can explore your authentic self: the good, the bad, and everything in between. That process cannot be rushed.

The length of therapy is dependent on the goals that are set by you and your therapist. Some goals may be met quickly, however, most of my clients have a more effective treatment ending with a plan of 6 months- 2 years of therapy service if they have not been in therapy before.

The most common treatment frequency is once per week, with a regular time reserved just for you. Other arrangements can be talked about and have been beneficial in some circumstances.

Support groups are a bit different than traditional therapy, but can be just as effective, as well as cheaper than traditional therapy.

In group therapy, your therapist is not a leader but rather a moderator, a resource gatherer, and an active participant. The healing is dependent on our commonalities.

As a person who identifies with codependency, I moderate an ongoing codependency support group.
